The incorporation of Provence into the French royal territory boosted local leather production and Grasse’s leather became popular at the royal court.

In 1614, Louis XVI established the Maîtres Gantiers Parfumeurs guild, which adopted specific statutes for Grasse in 1724. Perfumery gradually became the main activity of Grasse's manufacturers. In the 19th century, large family-run factories emerged, some of them are still thriving today.
